How to add students without an email address

The Whatever@example.com method

Overview

Users can be enrolled using a fake email address structured like above i.e fakeuser@example.com. When uploading users to the site this email will be used in replacement of an actual email, by giving a user a username they will then be able to login to the site using their username and password.

What this achieves

Users will be able to join without giving or needing an email address, they will then be able to login and use the site as other users do.

The limitations of this

The users will not be able to view emails sent out by the Moodle site which prevents them from receiving forgotten password email.

Uploading Users

To upload the user follow the normal process for uploading users to the site:

1. Create CSV file for uploading

1. Go to Site administration > Users > Accounts > Upload users
2. Add file to upload
3. Upload users preview - check settings and default user profile settings
4. Upload users preview - click "Upload users"
5. Upload users results - shows list of users, exceptions made in upload and summary of number of users
6. Upload users results - click "Continue"
7. Returns to Upload users screen
